Charles Dickens
A Christmas Carol takes place in London in the 1820s. It is a story about the transformation od Ebenezer Scrooge from a bitter old man to a kind and generous man. This is done through supernatural visits from the ghosts of Jacob Marley and the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to come.

Charles Dickens lived  from 1812-1870 and is one of the greatest English writers. He came from a poor family and knew how poor people lived in England, at a time when Great Britain was a very rich country  and London was the largest city in Europe. Living conditions for poor people at this time were terrible.

Many of his books focus on how poor people lived and the differences in the lives of the rich and poor.

At the end of the book there are 'Points for understanding' questions for students to answer.
